Chocolate – I knew it!

As readers of the Singleton Diet will know, I usually eat a couple of squares of dark chocolate every day. I like it, and it makes me happy. Now Prof Roger Corder has found that it makes you less likely to suffer arterial blockages and heart attacks.

The key, scientists argue, is in its molecules, or polyphenols – especially the largest group, flavonoids. Flavonoids possess an anti-oxidant effect which acts on the body’s LDL-cholesterol – the so-called “bad cholesterol” found in the blood which hardens arteries and causes blockages and eventual strokes and heart attacks.

It has to be dark chocolate of 70 percent cocoa solids, and two squares is about right. To which I can only say “Yesssss!!”
