Good Scottish

The Albanach in Trafalgar Square seems to be thriving, and full of stylishly-dressed youngsters enjoying themselves among the illuminated paper stags and the horn candelabras. The food is high quality Scottish, with never a mince and tatties in sight, never mind neeps. I began with warm tartlet of Dunsyre blue cheese, confit tomato and a mixed herb salad with hazelnut dressing. Wow, it was good! Then came the roasted Buccleuch beef fillet with aubergine, ‘preserved’ tomatoes, and haggis parcels and hermitage sauce. Tasty and tender beef, tangy salads. It went down well with a Thomas Mitchell cabernet shiraz, deep and fruity.
