Evil associations

Running on a theme, I bought a bottle of Casillero del Diablo 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, again from Chile. It’s surprisingly subtle and has many characteristics I’d associate more with a deep Burgundy than its supposed Bordeaux style. It was 13.5%, so not particularly intense for a Cabernet and the nose had blackcurrants and farmyards. The body was amazingly tannic and quite sharp, suggesting this might well last another few years in the cellar, although perhaps a cooler one than that which Satan might inhabit. In fact, there was also a gentle smokiness to this wine, come to think of it.
