Soft soup in the Millbank lounge

Ah, what do you do when you’ve just had a crown removed and some dental work done, and your mouth is still half frozen? You eat something soft, of course. I went to the Millbank lounge of the City Inn in Westminster. The place is so poorly laid out that if you don’t reserve one of the coveted window tables, there’s nowhere else worth sitting. We phoned to reserve a window cubicle.

I’d been told the risotto was just the thing to go with my dental state, but alas, there was none on the menu. It might have changed. There was, however, a butternut squash, honey and sage soup which I ate, giving away the rather nice-looking rolls. The soup was excellent, and the Long Beach South African ’06 shiraz at 13.5 percent was pretty nice too. Problem solved.
