Mulled wine

mulled-wine-vertical-largeI had a bottle of red wine, but because I wasn’t eating and figured my guest would enjoy something a little more entertaining, I mulled it. The wine was a Hardy’s Merlot from 2008 and a good enough 13.5%. I poured it into a pan, added about half a glass of water, squeezed two oranges into it, leaving the remaining fruit solids in the pan. Four little cloves and some cinnamon later, all that was required was some acacia honey, of which I added more later, it not being as sweet as I expected. I simmered it for half an hour. All high-quality ingredients made for a delicious, warming drink, and I received compliments!
