Robinson Formal

Dinner was varied and exciting, mostly because there were lots of people there I’d never met before. It was held at Robinson College, Cambridge and involved three courses. I chose to eat only half of the first course, not because it was bad food, but because I wanted to leave room for the rest. This turns out to be a particularly good dieting trick, as I didn’t eat much of the main course, either, or any of the dessert! The starter was a varied, pine-nut sprinkled salad along with some goat’s cheese inside a puff pastry case. The main course was a very large piece of grilled chicken along with small pieces of roast potato, green beans and carrot batons. There was far too much of this course! Then dessert was an apple and toffee crumble, to which I didn’t add the custard as I didn’t eat it. The company was thrilling and the wine we drank was very varied, with each of us trying various different bottles, as we’d each brought one along. As a guest, I had the choice to elect not to wear a gown, so I didn’t, on the grounds that it often makes you too hot! Next week is Selwyn College…
