Cambridge Beer Festival

We didn’t stay more than an hour and a half at the Cambridge Beer Festival, but the two of us did sample 6 beers between us by the half pint. It cost us £3.50 to get in, plus £2 refundable rent on the souvenir glasses (which we got back by trading them in as we left). There were hundreds of ales, and pleasant outside tables in the late afternoon sun. Everyone seemed to be having a relaxed time, with many people sitting in groups on the grass.

We had Golden Newt (4.6) dry and nicely bitter, followed by Prometheus (6.0), a pale and clean taste. Then came On the Huh (5.0), a strong old-fashioned bitter, and Blackfriars Maritime (5.0), quite rich and with hoppy bitterness and strong malt tones. On we went to Nessie’s Monster Mash (4.4), a traditional bitter with a lingering aftertaste, finishing up with Summer Lightning (5.0), a pale, malty, hoppy beer with a good finish. A pleasant time was had by all.
