McSorley’s Old Ale House
Whilst in New York, I took the time to visit McSorley’s Old Ale House on 7th Street, just off 2nd Avenue. Beers are $4.50 for a small (half-pint-ish) measure, but you get two for every one you order and the choice is limited: dark or light, both brewed by McSorley’s. I stuck at the bar, and was impressed by the bar staff pouring four beers at a time, and the table staff carrying eight in a hand! Both beers were good, with an impressive depth of flavour in the dark and a “session bitter” taste to the light. Above the bar was a bust of JFK – perhaps my favourite American President – surely a good sign?
