The very model of a modern English condiment
What more traditional condiment can there be than English Mustard? This one, Fortnum and Mason’s ‘Hot English Mustard’ is another from my ‘Window of Discovery.’
It certainly lives up to the name, delivering a pleasant kick, and enters my life almost daily. How? In sandwiches, of course! My lunch most days is a sandwich and this mustard has livened up ham-and-cucumber sandwiches no end. Before I found this mustard, I used Waitrose’s own-brand whole grain mustard. The Fortnum’s stuff is, of course, smooth and yellow – it’s a more mustardy flavour with less of a vinegary taste. What it lacks in texture, it more than makes up for in flavour and a seeming-inability to over-power quality hams. When it’s gone though, another will have to take its place…
