Sad news indeed of Keith Floyd, who passed away yesterday.

I remember watching reruns of his various television series, and enjoying them immensely. His unique style and flamboyance, and near-constant possession of a full glass of wine whilst cooking, made his shows enjoyable and memorable. His shows, I suspect, paved the way for the plethora of television chefs we have today.

Floyd’s Britishness was undeniable, but by taking cooking out of the confines of the studio kitchen and to exotic (often windswept and rainy) locations, he made it less ‘stuffy’ and more appealing. He will be missed.
