Senorio de la Antigua

The wines in Cuba (apart from the Cuban one I tried) seem to be mostly from Spain or Chile. This is not surprising, considering the country’s heritage and location, and the US embargo. There are some quite decent ones. One I tried in the bar of the Hotel Nacional is a Spanish white, Senorio de la Antigua. It is a 2008 at 11.5 percent, pleasantly crisp and with a nice fruit tang up front. Given warm evenings with many sea breezes coming in, and the fact that the bar is an outdoor one, it makes for a pleasant experience, especially if it is accompanied by one of the Havana cigars from those boxes stacked up behind the bottle.
