Tartare for now
A Midsummer House dish:
While my fellow diners enjoyed something rather ordinary I received a special lactose-free starter. Now, what was it? Salmon. But was it Tartare? I’m not sure.
The thing is, it was delicious and it could have been tartare, or not. Doesnt really matter. I just can’t understand the thick french accents some places allow and surely encourage their waiters to use. I was tempted to ask him to speak in french, at least then I would have a chance of understanding. Some excellent restaurants, and they are almost all guilty, slap on such a thick french accent as if to validate the authenticity of the food.
So, tartare or not aside, this Salmon dish was excellent. A really strong smell and taste of radish and freshness of small green shoots, watercress perhaps. A really nice first dish which cleansed the palate, awoke anticipation in the mind and settled us in nicely for an enjoyable evening.
