Figs at Mosimann’s

Mosimann’s has long been a Belgravia institution. It must be the only restaurant I’ve eaten in that was once a Scottish Presbyterian church. Anton Mosimann has devoted his life to gastronomy, and is very much a personal presence at his restaurant. He was awarded an OBE by the Queen for his work, as well as an honorary degree from Thames Valley University.

I began with the figs and goat’s cheese as a starter, and I’ve never had better (the photo came out rather messy, unfortunately). I went on to the lamb as a main course, with a Gevrey Chambertin burgundy which was the perfect accompaniment to it.

Finally I had figs again, this time in an utterly gorgeous fig tart with syrup and clotted cream.

This was a fantastic meal by any standards. It’s easy to see why Mossimann’s gets rave reviews, and it goes without saying that the internal ambience and décor are awesome.
