Prosecco in vogue

For some reason prosecco is currently fashionable. You see it everywhere, and I can’t quite work out why. It is, I suppose, a less costly recession alternative to champagne, but what’s wrong with cava, which I find much better? I was lunching at Balls Brothers, and asked them why there was no sparkling wine other than champagne on their list. I was told they did serve prosecco, but that it was not on the list. I ordered it and found it quite pleasant, but lighter than a cava.

I opted for the mushrooms and stilton sauce on toast. It was first class, with good wild mushrooms and a creamy, blue-cheesy sauce. An excellent light lunch.

My lunch companion ordered their bread and butter pudding afterwards. I tasted a spoonful of it and thought it delicious, but I was not hungry enough to order one for myself. I did have coffee, though.
