Vinas de Gain

I’m a huge fan of spanish wine, it is cheaper than french wine and at the cheap end is better. This wine, at £14 a bottle isn’t particularly cheap so I had high hopes. I would describe it as not being a ‘classic’ Rioja but rather more in the Bordeaux style with that signature note of toast on the nose and a smooth and elegant finish. Personally I prefer the ‘classic’ Rioja’s more earthly taste and fighting spirit rather than the subdued elegance of the Bordeaux style. The wine was delicious but I had been hoping for a greater richness of taste and the earthy aromas of baked earth on a rainy day…
